Wheal Elizabeth

Wheal Elizabeth is a former tin and lead mine in Cornwall.

The mines name is a little complex, and I’m afraid I can’t quite figure it all out!

Wheal Elizabeth was formerly known as the Little Ventonwyn Mine. It was worked as a part of the Great Hewas United Mines, and seperately, as a part of the Kingsdown Mine.

The Great Hewas United Mines included Great Hewas, Wheal Prosper, Wheal Husband, and Wheal Elizabeth.

Specimens from this site may therefore be labelled as a range of different names:

  • Wheal Elizabeth
  • Little Ventonwyn Mine

 

Or as one of the mines it was worked as a part of:

  • Great Hewas United Mines / Great Hewas Consolidated Mines / Great Hewas Consols / Great Hewas Mine / Wheal Hewas / Hewas Downs Mine
  • Kingsdown Mine / Hewas Water Mine
