Penlee Quarry

Newlyn, Penzance, Cornwall, UK

A former aggregate quarry which occasionally provided a range of mineral specimens.

Mindat lists 24 minerals from the site but the best known from the site is probably siderite, often on Quartz. Several uncommon minerals are present, including lollingite, scheelite, and native bismuth.

The quarry was worked from the 1990s, but has been dormant since the late 1990s. It was designated as a SSSI in 1997 for its geological formations.

There are some plans to turn the quarry into a marina with offices, retail space and some housing.

Historically this site may have been known as “Gwavas Quarry”.
