Wheal Unity

St Day, Gwennap, Cornwall, England, UK

A former copper, tin and tungsten mine near St Day, known for mineral specimens.

According to mindat, 55 mineral species can be found at the site. Fine clinoclase and olivenite are found here, as well as various radioactive minerals.

Unfortunately, there do appear to be several ‘Wheal Unity’ sites throughout Cornwall. This one is near St Day, to the east of Redruth.

This could cause some confusion on specimens simply labelled ‘Wheal Unity, Cornwall’, so please bear this in mind.

The site has at least one named shaft; Lemon’s West Shaft.
