Wheal Penrose

Porthleven, Cornwall, England, UK

Wheal Penrose is a former lead zinc mine worked in between the 17th century and finally closing in 1872. Today, a small amount of dumps still exist on the site.

There is an excellent writeup on the site on the Scottish Geology Trust website linked below, far more in depth than I can write here!

Mindat lists 21 minerals from the site, including some interesting titanium minerals – anatase, brookite, and rutile could all be found at one point or another.

According to the Scottish Geology Trust writeup, the dumps still carry sphalerite and galena, and occasionally secondary minerals.
