Gunheath China Clay Pit

A china clay pit with areas of interesting mineralisation.

Once, this site was one of the largest quarries in the world, with the dumps of the site being referred to as the ‘Cornish Alps’.

The china clay from the site is used in the production of porcelain.

There are a large amount of minerals known from the site – Mindat lists 78, including turquoise, tourmaline group minerals, and radioactive minerals.
