Boiling Well Mine

Upton Towans, Gwinear-Gwithian, Cornwall, England, UK

A historic copper, lead, zinc and silver mine.

The site was operated off and on between 1815 and 1862 when it was finally closed. It seems to have been worked from sometime in the 1800s until 1815, and then 1821 until 1856 before its final closure in 1862.

Mindat mentions several lodes – north, middle, and south. It also names Hallet’s, King’s, and South lode. Whether these are the same, I do not know.

The site may be known by a few other names, including:

  • Wheal Boil
  • Wheal Boild
  • Wheal Rice
  • Wheal North Alfred B
