Mining in Morocco is extremely important to the countries economy.
The country produces a huge amount of important minerals, including phosphates, barite, fluorspar, arsenic trioxide, cobalt, and silver. The country also produces a wide range of other mineral commodities.
Mining contributes around 3% to the GDP of Morocco.
Mineral specimens and fossils are also hugely important to Morocco, although likely on much smaller scale.
I’d be willing to make the point that almost every collector of fossils or minerals has at least one Moroccan specimen.
Locality information is sometimes a little sparse coming out of Morocco. We often find that minerals or fossils come from a huge area and are simply listed as that area, rather than in other countries, potentially being listed from a mine or a claim.
The country does still have several very well known locales, though – my favourites are below and I’d recommend a google if you’re interested in Moroccan minerals.

- Amethyst and Quartz geodes from the Sidi Rahal Quarries, Marrakesh-Safi.
