Micromount (1-15MM)
Micromount minerals are small but typically exceptionally formed – magnification is always recommended for these minerals.
They range from 1-15MM approximately, but untrimmed ‘micros’ might have a small area of crystals in a much larger piece of matrix.

Micromounts are probably not the first thing that new collectors look for; the added expense of magnification does make viewing and collecting them a little more tricky.
However, reasonable specimens can be found for a few pounds, and larger pieces can often be trimmed into several quality micromounts.
UK collectors will probably want to take a look at the following groups and links:
Other size classes for minerals include:
- Micromount (1-15MM)
- Thumbnail (10-30MM)
- Small cabinet (30-60MM)
- Cabinet minerals (60-100MM)
- Large cabinet minerals (100MM+)
