Galena from Osor Mines, Osor, Selva, Girona, Catalonia, Spain

Specimens of Galena in matrix from the collection of mines known as Osor Mines, or Mines d´Osor. The matrix rock here is usually a white calcite or quartz, but this varies between specimens.

Osor mines opened in around 1840 and closed in around 1980. There is now little remaining of the locale on the surface.

Galena is a lead ore and should be considered toxic; please handle it carefully and wash your hands afterwards.
