Eaglebrook Mine

Tal-y-bont, Ceulanymaesmawr, Ceredigion, Wales, UK

A mineral rich mine on the shores of the Nant-y-Moch reservoir, the Eaglebrook Mine is also sometimes known as the Nant-y-Cagal mine.

The site provided many fine micromineral specimens over the years, but it is now a SSSI and no further collecting is allowed.

The mine was opened originally in around 1700, and eventually finally closed in around 1874-1875.

It produced lead and copper ores. Mindat lists 56 minerals from the site, including fine langite, laurionite, and linarite. Many of the minerals are secondary copper, lead, or zinc minerals.

Other names for this site include:

  • Eaglebrook Mine
  • Nant-y-Cagal mine
  • Nantycagl mine
  • Dolrhuddlan
  • Dolrhyddlan Mine

There are some excellent writeups of the site, especially that of the Scottish Geology trust.
