Smoky Quartz and Calcite geode
A gorgeous Smoky Quartz and Calcite geode from Las Choyas, Mexico.
This is a single half, comprised of a sagenitic Agate layer containing smaller smoky Quartz druzy crystals - randomly interspersed with unusually shaped brown Calcite crystals.
On the surface, one of the brown Calcite crystals has been cut along with the rest of the geode - this is quite an interesting feature as you can see that the brown crystals are clear inside and owe their colour to a coating of something. The Calcite also fluoresces a bright pink under UV. The rear of the geode does have some areas with green fluorescence, which isn't uncommon in geodes from this area.
