Iridescent Hematite from Hat lease, Goldfield Mining District, Esmeralda County, Nevada, USA
Iridescent Hematite specimens from the Hat Lease area of the Goldfield Mining District.
Iridescent Hematite is sometimes called turgite, but as it occurs in several ways this name is not ideal and should be phased out.
The iridescent coating on these pieces is probably best compared to oil on water; blues, greens and yellows. Best seen under a bright light.
Some specimens have way more iridescence than others - some only have small areas.
