Polyhedral Amethyst slices
Cut slices of an extremely unusual polyhedral form of Amethyst, suitable for use as cabochons, specimens, or just display pieces. Polyhedral minerals are thought to form within the cavities between crystals, such as calcite or baryte, which later dissolve or disintegrate leaving only the oddly shaped polyhedral specimens.
These could perhaps be described as "trapiche-like", due to the colour zoning that is clearly visible between purple and clear colours. However, they are not trapiche shapes.
These are likely to be from Brazil, perhaps even from the same location as the unusual Polyhedral Agates that are now very rare. It looks as though the nodules were never particularly large - as one side always appears to have more white Quartz than the other - indicating it is a cut from the outside of a nodule.
