Smallcleugh mine

Smallcleugh mine is an abandoned lead mine near to Nenthead, Cumbria.

Smallcleugh was originally worked from 1770 and appears to have closed in around 1960.

It is well known among mineral collectors for galena, sphalerite, ankerite and calcite, which have been collected for many years now. Microminerals are also found, including fine specimens of annabergite, brochantite, etc.

Smallcleugh appears to be popular with cavers, which is pretty cool for us, as there are a lot of photos from inside the mine.

Smallcleugh appears to connect internally to several other mines, including (but perhaps not limited to!):
