Ledmore Quarry

Sutherland, Highlands, Scotland

Quarrying has been recorded on this site as early as 1796, and it is the only marble quarry on the British mainland.

It is primarily mined for marble, known as ‘Ledmore Grey’ marble.

Showing the single result

There is limited information about the quarry online, which is fairly common for active stone quarries.

Britannicus Stone tells us that the ‘Ledmore Grey’ marble mined on the site was created when syenetic igneous rock thrust through the Durness Limestone deposits creating serpentine and brucite, around 430 million years ago.
