Royal Mine

Matlock, Derbyshire Dales District, Derbyshire, England, UK

A former zinc and fluorite mine in Derbyshire.

There is not much information available on this site, unfortunately.

The Mindat listing for the mine appears to indicate it is under what is now ‘Gullivers Kingdom’, a tourist attraction. According to Wikipedia the park was founded in 1978, which means it is highly likely all working was done at least 5-10 years before this.

I unfortunately wasn’t able to find any information other than this – site worked prior to 1973, and thats an estimation. Old maps describe the site as ‘old mines’ so it is probably prior to 1900.

Buddlepit suggests the mine may have also been known as ‘New Speedwell Mine’ or ‘Pavillion Mine’.
