Pike Lane Opencut

Winster, Derbyshire Dales District, Derbyshire, England, UK

A former open cut lead mine near Winster.

There doesn’t seem to be much information about this locale online, unfortunately.

Mindat lists several mines from the site, most prominently lead minerals, but fluorite has been found here too.

The derbyshire mines site linked below has a report of a visit to the site.

Looking on the old maps available from the NLS, the site is just listed as ‘Old Lead Mines’, even on the 1830-1880 series, which suggests some if not all of the mining took place before 1880s, at least.
