Haltcliffe Copper Smelter

Caldbeck, Cumbria, UK

The site of a former copper smelter and its associated dumps.

The site is now a scheduled monument, listed in 2001.

Information on the site is somewhat limited – there is no mindat locale page for the site.

The ancient monuments page linked below states that the site was in use from sometime between 1866 and demolished sometime before 1900. Mineral analysis shows the smelter worked ores from both Carrock End mine and Carrock Fell mine.

Some of the slag contains micro-minerals. However, as it is a scheduled monument, no collecting would be allowed.
