Aberllyn Mine

Betws-y-coed, Conwy, Wales, UK

A historical lead and zinc mine near to the village of Betws-y-coed.

The mine is the type locality for namuwite, a zinc mineral.

Mindat only lists 6 minerals from the site, but does not list any lead minerals – so this is certainly an incomplete list as the site was definitely worked for lead ores at some points.

The mine appears to have been operated between 1838 and 1904. Some activity started again in 1917, and it eventually closed in 1920.

There is an extremely detailed writeup of the site on the walesher1974 link below, however, it is more an archaeological report on the site than any geological information.
