UV reactive minerals - starter set

A 'starter set' of UV reactive minerals - carefully chosen to fit into a cute little display box.

This kit contains six small specimens, mounted and boxed, with an ID label to the rear. They ought to make a decent introduction to fluorescent minerals at a great price point.

The minerals all react to 365nm (UVA) UV light - the most common and safest UV wavelength used by mineral collectors.

The specimens include:

• Amber - Baltic Sea, Poland (chalky blue-white fluorescence)
• Quartz with petroleum inclusions - Pakistan (varies - typically a white-blue fluorescence, sometimes with orange and yellow areas)
• Kunzite - Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan (typically a salmon-pink-peach fluorescence)
• Kunzite, polished - Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan (typically a salmon-pink-peach fluorescence)
• Corundum - Ketito, Tanzania - (rich red fluorescence)
• Opal-AN/Hyalite - San Luis Potosi, Mexico (the stand out star - bright green fluorescence caused by uranium ions - not detectably radioactive)

A cheap 365nm UV torch can be had on Amazon for under £10 - I recommend the 'DARKBEAM' as a budget light at just £8.49 as of time of writing.
