Rutile in Hematite specimens
I'm a big fan of these - needles of golden Rutile cover a dark grey Hematite matrix, leading to a stand out contrasting specimen.
Rutile is perhaps most commonly known as a mineral which occurs inside Quartz, which is then known as 'Rutilated Quartz'.
These are typically quite small and very fragile - it is extremely likely that some of the needles will come out in transit. You can see them moulting in the photos. Some pieces are more hardy than others; some are very fragile.
However, Rutile can occur as individual crystals, or sprays of crystals, or sit in/on a bed of Hematite.
Our current stock includes:
- Various partial 'star' specimens, consisting of sprays of Rutile crystals in a Hematite matrix.
- Nice mixed up specimens from Brazil with great contrast.

Great item, complemented my collection of iron ore mine minerals. Well packaged, delivered as expected and the specimen was as advertised.
