Rough Emerald Crystals

Gorgeous green Emerald crystals, available in a few quality grades.

Emeralds are a form of Beryl with a strong green colour - they are tremendously popular in gemstone jewellery, and are likely one of the most famous gemstones.

Technically, the word Emerald refers to a gem grade of Beryl; these specimens are not a gem grade and are intended for collectors rather than gemstone cutters. However, the higher grades really do have some nice colour.

Our current stock includes:

  • 10-20MM pieces of Emerald in matrix from Brazil - a low grade with pale colour and no clarity.
  • Grade C pieces from mixed locations - damaged or included crystals; these may be cloudy, opaque, or have poor colouration. Most have some matrix of another stone. A strong light may reveal some brighter green patches. Available in 6-9MM, 10-15MM, and 15-20MM
  • Grade B pieces from mixed locations - damaged or included crystals, but a nicer grade. They are often cloudy but all will have a reasonably good colour against a light. Available in 3-6MM, 6-9MM and 10-15MM.
  • Grade A pieces from mixed locations - damaged or worn, but in some cases closer to complete crystals. Nicer again - still cloudy or included to some extent (almost all Emerald is!) but a good colour; even better when lit up. Some matrix may be present but not always. Available in 3-6MM, 6-9MM and 10-15MM.
  • 8g packet of small crystals from the Swat valley of Pakistan - some of these are very small, barely 1-2MM, but some are up to 10MM. There's probably about 50 pieces in here. Good colour in most bits too.

Closeup photos of these pieces were taken with a backlight to show off their colours.

  • #1 - 11x8.5x6MM - unknown location - bright stone with a hint of white matrix.
  • #2 - 9x8.4x5.9MM - unknown location - bright stone divided internally with a black line.
  • #3 - 16x8.9x7.5MM - unknown location - interesting one with some odd crystalline forms.
  • #4 - 8.9x8.5x7MM - unknown location - nice crystal formation with the well known six sided shape.
  • #5 - 8.2x7x5.8MM - unknown location - nice bright green.
  • #6 - 11.7x8.6x6.5MM - unknown location - nice bright green.
  • #7 - 8.5x7.1x5.9MM - unknown location - nice bright green.
  • #8 - 10.3x8.2x6.8MM - unknown location - a bright piece of Emerald sandwiched between two darker matrix pieces.
  • #9 - 10.2x9.3x9MM - unknown location - nicer than it looks in the photo - small crystals.
  • #10 - 10.6x10.1x6.3MM - unknown location - nice bright green.
  • #11 - 13.4x9.2x11.5MM - unknown location - nice crystalline form, if a little weathered.
  • #12 - 17x9x8.5MM - unknown location - bright green band in the middle of two pieces of matrix.

Frequently asked questions and delivery information

How do we grade stones?

There is no overall universal grading system for the majority of our products. As such, the grades we use are internal only. They simply refer to higher and lower qualities, but they may be entirely different grades to other websites. C grade pieces are of lower quality than B grade, which is lower than A grade.

How does our ordering and delivery process work?

You place an order via the website. When it’s been picked and packed, your order will be marked as completed and dropped off at our local post office. We have an account with the post office called a “Drop and Go” account, which allows the post office staff to process our parcels when they have free time, rather than me queuing up and delaying everyone else.

I get tracking information etc online when this has been completed. I typically do not send tracking information to customers unless they request it – but if you’ve requested tracked postage, it has been sent tracked! If you have any worries or concerns about your parcel being delayed please feel free to get in touch and I’ll send the tracking info over! We also get delivery confirmations for parcels over 25MM thick by default.

How do international orders work?

After Brexit, with the UK leaving the European Union, certain things have changed with regards to international orders. European Union customers will now likely be liable to pay the same amount of import VAT as any other international customers. You will be responsible for any customs and import fees.

I’d like to return my order for a refund.

No problem at all – just get in touch and we’ll arrange it. You can read our full returns policy here.

What payment methods do you accept?

I can accept Paypal, Stripe, cheque, and direct bank transfers. Paypal and Stripe will both allow you to pay with credit and debit cards.
