Polished Jadeite slices

Given how much fake 'Jadeite' and 'Jade' (often Serpentine) is on the market worldwide, I didn't actually have a category for the genuine stuff on the website when these slices arrived. I had a Nephrite Jade category, just not Jadeite.

However, I was lucky enough to be able to get these pieces from an old collection. It is unlikely I will stock any more Jadeite any time soon, especially from this locale.

These slices are both from Itmurundy massif, Krasnyi Oktyabr', Aktogay, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan, and were collected when the region was still part of the USSR.

Technically, they are a mixture - bright green Jadeite crystals sitting in grey-white Albite feldspar. The Jadeite crystals are prismatic and measure up to 5MM long, and there are some masses of a paler green which may be Jadeite or another mineral. It would likely require RAMAN analysis to precisely identify.

Our current (and probably only future) stock includes:

  • #1 - 85x26x8MM, weighing 45.3 grams. The rear is natural and has a sticker with the locale written on, although it is incredibly hard to read.
  • #2 - 104x55.5x14.3MM, weighing 183.8 grams.  The rear is cut, but unpolished. For any lapidarists, this slice could be cut in half depth-ways.
