Blue and green Kyanite crystal specimens
Small flat blue and green Kyanite crystals – an oddity to be sure. Kyanite occurs in a range of colours but green crystals are uncommon to say the least. Blue AND green crystals, even more uncommon.
The different colours are caused by differing levels of mineral inclusions; blue Kyanite is coloured by Iron and Titanium - green Kyanite is caused by Vanadium - meaning different areas of these crystals formed with different concentrations of the elements that colour them.
