Kyanite from Varzo, Piedmont, Italy

Specimen pieces of Kyanite from the area around Varzo, a commune in Piedmont, Italy. It is somewhat unusual amongst Kyanites due to a red fluorescence under UV light - admittedly, this is quite dim compared to our classic UV reactive minerals.

We currently have a single piece in stock, from an older collection.

It consists of numerous blue to blue-green kyanite crystals on a friable matrix of iron stained, mica rich Quartz. Best considered a small cabinet specimen, measuring 175x89x36.6MM approx. This is quite a fragile specimen and does have several cracks in the matrix currently, but it is stable enough to be handled gently.
