Hematite (Kidney Ore) from Florence-Ullcoats Mine, Egremont, Cumbria, UK

A range of specimens of Hematite from the Florence-Ullcoats Mine, Egremont, Cumbria, UK. Often known as 'Kidney Ore' when in this botryoidal form.

These specimens were collected in 1978 by Roy Starkey, a prominent British mineralogist, and do come with his identification label.

The labels are in reasonable condition but I've encased them in clear plastic for their protection - can be removed from this easy enough.

The mine was sunk in 1914 and was open in various incarnations until 2007. There is no longer public access to the site.

  • #1 - 26.5x21.6x11.6MM - a nice small thumbnail specimen of kidney ore from this relatively uncommon locale.
  • #2 - 21.7x13.1x9.8MM - a nice small thumbnail specimen of kidney ore from this relatively uncommon locale.
