Calcite specimens from the UK
Calcite specimens from various locales around the UK. Calcite is a popular mineral but many people tend to go for acid-treated foreign Calcites, which have bright colours and a waxy lustre.
Perhaps British Calcites are overlooked, some can be very nice specimens. Please note, crystalline Calcite like #1 can be very fragile.
Our current stock includes:
- #1 – 77.5×28.5x40MM – from Charmouth. This piece was part of a Septarian nodule formed by an Ammonite fossil – you can see an imprint of the shell. Luckily this piece was rescued before any water rounding could occur, resulting in good crystal definition.
- #2 – 62x50x36MM – from Cornwall. An interesting piece, white Calcite with areas of red staining, likely Iron.
- #3 – 63x60x42MM – unknown locale in the UK. Milky white to a pale brown.
