Pibble Mine

Creetown, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, UK

Pibble Mine is an abandoned copper and lead mine near Creetown. It was worked between 1849 and 1855.

Pibble is not the best known mine in Scotland by any means, and is not well represented in mineral collections. I have only ever seen a few specimens from this location, and they all came from the same pre 1970s collection.

The site is now a scheduled ancient monument, and it is unlikely any collection would be allowed. It is an isolated site and reasonably well preserved, with a pumping engine house and crushing mill still partially remaining (but ruined) on site.

There are good writeups of the site linked below on the NMRS and GSG websites – Mindats article is a little sparse.
