Shap Pink Quarry

Shap Rural, Eden, Cumbria, England, UK

Shap Pink Quarry is an aggregate quarry working granite, which worked through various areas of mineralisation.

The pink granite from the site is primarily sold as a decorative stone or as crushed aggregates, but the mineral specimens from the site are quite interesting too – especially for micro mineral and systematic mineral collectors.

The granite from the site is given its colour by large pink orthoclase megacrysts.

The site is well known for titanium microminerals including anatase, brookite, rutile, and titanite.
