Wheal Edward

Botallack, St Just, Cornwall, England, UK

A former copper, tin, and uranium mine which produced a range of mineral specimens.

Showing the single result

Mindat lists over 40 minerals from the site. Collectors might be especially interested in the cassiterite from the site, or the various radioactive minerals – including autunite, meta-autunite, torbernite, meta-torbernite, pitchblende, uranophane, and zeunerite.

Pitchblende from this site was even sent to Marie Curie.

The site was worked as early as 1775, and eventually closed around 1850-1860.

I would highly recommend reading the National Trust writeup on the property below; although it doesn’t have much (anything) in the way of paragraphs or spacing, it is a long and detailed history of the site.
