Virtuous Lady Mine

Buckland Monachorum, West Devon, Devon, UK

Virtuous Lady Mine is a former copper, iron and tin mine within the Dartmoor National Park area.

The mine has a somewhat unclear history, with numerous claims that it was originally worked in Elizabethan times, and others claiming the first documented evidence of its existence dates from 1724.

It was eventually closed sometime in the 1800s and has remained dormant since.

Numerous small above ground features remain, along with spoil heaps which do produce small mineral specimens from time to time.

The Dartmoor explorations article linked below has a great number of photographs showing above ground evidence of the workings, and is well worth a look!

The mindat page shows that as of 2023, numerous spoil heaps are completely overgrown – it is unclear whether any of the site is still accessible.
