Old Glencrieff Vein
Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, UK
The Old Glencrieff Vein is a part of the Leadhills-Wanlockhead mining district, a lead-zinc vein approximately one and a half miles long, with dumps that occasionally produce decent micromount specimens.
Showing the single result
The vein has been abandoned for at least a hundred years, but I wasn’t able to find any accurate date for this. The dumps are of considerable size so working must have been reasonably large at one time, but it appears most of the mining took place at the southern end of the vein with limited work at the northern end.
There is relatively little information available on this site, compared to the similarly named New Glencrieff Mine/New Glencrieff vein, a stones throw away.
