Meldon Quarry

Okehampton Hamlets, West Devon, Devon, England, UK

Meldon Quarry is a former aggregate quarry which also produced a range of mineral specimens.

This locale may also be known as

  • British Rail quarry
  • British Railways quarry
  • BR Quarry
  • Meldon BR

The quarry was officially funded sometime around the 1870s to produce aggregates for the railway, and vastly expanded in both 1897 and 1902. It was finally mothballed in 2011, when Bardon Aggregates closed the site.

Mindat lists over 40 minerals from the site, including bustamite and wollastonite.
