Croft Quarry

Croft, Blaby, Leicestershire, UK

Sometimes referred to as ‘Croft and Huncote Quarry’ but known locally as Croft Quarry; this is an active quarry producing aggregates for building.

It also produces small numbers of mineral specimens including Analcime, Calcite, Chalcopyrite, and Pyrolusite.

Croft Quarry is one of the largest excavations in Europe, and local mining has occurred since the first century – a Roman granite quarry used to construct parts of the Fosse Way.

While Croft Quarry is on private land and it is unlikely for anyone to be granted permission to visit for minerals, if you are nearby, it is well worth a visit to Croft Hill, which overlooks it. Hell of a view.
