Coombefield Quarry

Isle of Portland, Dorset, England

Coombefield Quarry is a former limestone quarry which produced several nice mineral specimens including baryte, calcite, and malachite and numerous types of fossils.

Numerous dinosaur footprints were found on the site, and unfortunately one was stolen in 2009.

It seems the site will be redeveloped into a holiday park.

This quarry is no longer active as far as I can tell, and covers the old quarry known as ‘Suckthumb Quarry’ as well. Suckthumb Quarry is now completely backfilled it seems.
