Cala Mines
Cala, Huelva, Andalusia, Spain
An almost abandoned mining village with little remaining – it finally closed in 2010. It was previously worked for copper and iron ore.
The Cala Mines are also known as Minas de Cala in Spanish.
Mindat lists nearly 30 minerals from the site including various metal ores – they produce some nice mineral specimens including epidote and various garnets.
Considerable dump sites remain at the site, but they are partially reforested. While buildings still remain at the site, they may be reclaimed in future.
The Andalucia website has a good writeup and history of the site in English.
