These are pieces of Rutilated Quartz - clear or milky Quartz with inclusions of golden coloured Rutile, a form of Titanium Dioxide which occurs in needle-like crystals.
Rutilated quartz is formed when rutile crystals become trapped within the quartz as it forms.
Our A grade pieces are lovely and clear, but tend to be quite small. When slabbed correctly, they should be suitable for small cabochons or polished slabs. They are, of course, also beautiful when left uncut.
The B and C grades aren't really cutting material, they often have fractures, staining, or just a lack of clarity.
Our current stock includes:
- Various small specimens from Minas Gerais, Brazil
- We sometimes have kilo bags of rough material but not currently - sorry!
