Rhodochrosite var Capillitite from Capillitas mining district, Andalgalá Department, Catamarca Province, Argentina

Capillitite is an uncommon variant of Rhodochrosite, in which the Manganese has been replaced by varying amounts of iron or zinc.

Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate with the formula MnCO3 - the formula for Capillitite would be the variable (Mn,Zn,Fe)CO3.

Typically this results in a similar formation, but different colours; typically a pinky-brown.

The pieces we have in stock currently all have a polished face to the front of the piece and are rough over the rest.
