Ptinidae insect inclusion in Baltic Amber
Members of the Ptinidae family of insects included in fossilised baltic Amber.
Ptinidae is a family which includes the subfamily Ptininae, or 'spider beetles'.
The Amber found in the Baltic sea region is thought to date from the Eocene in age - although the exact age is somewhat argued upon in the scientific community - it is probably best to simply state that it is 'around 40 million years old'.
Magnification will be required for this, as with all amber inclusions - they are on a very, very small scale.
We currently have a single piece in stock:
#1 - 13.3x12.3x3MM - a very nice specimen - reasonably well preserved with minimal clouding and only some minor obstructions to the inclusion. Under magnification, the compound eyes and hairy wingcase are both very visible and due to the relative flatness of the specimen, can be brought into reasonably sharp focus with a single image - although, as always, image stacking yields the best results.
