Picture stone cabochons are interesting little cabs, ideal for jewellers looking for a 'desert' theme, or perhaps just some muted colours.

These cabochons are sold singly or in small packets, but we do offer discounts for bulk purchases.

The stone is often compared to a desert landscape, and its easy to see why. It has bands of varying browns, creams, and reds, and does almost look like an arid scene.

These were previously sold as Picture Jasper, but that is a trade name - we are trying to avoid using those where possible. This material is a dendritic layered siltstone from China, not a form of Jasper.

The material is sometimes also known as "Picture Jasper" or "Kalahari Picture Stone", and 'Picture stone' is itself a trade name - however, we are trying to avoid using any trade names which misuse the name of another mineral.

The pictures you see here are representative of the products and are usually not the exact item you will receive. Where various grades are available we do try to photograph each grade - but some photographs are still on their way!
