Macrocrinus crinoid fossils from the USA
Crinoids are also known as sea lillies, a marine animal which fed by filtering small particles of food from the surrounding water.
Despite the 'sea lily' name, and sometimes the appearance, crinoids are not a form of plant.
Our current stock includes:
- #1 - 76.4x41.3x21.8MM - Macrocrinus mundulus from the Lower Mississippian Muldraugh formation.
It was found at Indian Creek, location 7, in Montgomery County, Indiana, USA. It has a horizontal crack running through some of the matrix of the specimen, but it is stable.
The crinoid itself appears to be in very good condition, with a calyx, arms, and a stem visible - the arms are particularly detailed and look almost 'feathered'. Unfortunately one arm does have a small crack.
