Hematite from Great Rock Mine, Hennock, Teignbridge, Devon, England, UK
Hematite specimens from Great Rock Mine, Devon.
The ore from this mine was known as 'shining ore' for its quality, with an unusual texture caused by the micaceous nature of the ore.
It was mined heavily during WW2 for battleship paint.
The mine was eventually closed around 1969 - it is currently barred off and reported to be very unsafe.
We currently only have a single piece in stock, with plenty of the micaceous Hematite known from the mine.
