Garnets in Mica from Loch Tay, Scotland
Specimen pieces of Garnet in a Mica matrix from the area around the Loch Tay fault, in the Scottish Highlands.
These pieces are quite interesting; the Garnet crystals are porphyroblasts in a foliated matrix which makes a great teaching aid for geology students and teachers - as it appears the Mica is 'flowing' around the Garnets. This is much easier to see in thin section, but I don't have the capacity to create those, apologies.
Under a microscope the Garnets are more noticable, some distinct, some much less so.
