Fools Gold / Pyrite Crystals on matrix
Pyrite crystals on matrix rock, available in a range of sizes. The sizes we sell describe the rough size of the matrix stone, not the crystals - which are typically between 5 and 30MM approximately.
Pyrite is also known as 'Fools Gold', as its shape and colour have confused miners and gold panners for centuries. It is, of course, Iron crystals, rather than Gold.
It sometimes occurs in a cubic formation, but equally can form in other shapes - decagons, dodecahedrons, and other complex shapes.
Our current stock includes specimens from Ambas Aguas, Spain - these are incredibly fragile and should be handled as little as possible.
- #1 - 129x75.5x42.5MM, 450 grams - a piece from Ambas Aguas, Spain, consisting of everything from cubes to dodecahedrons in a clay-claystone matrix. This matrix is very soft and fragile and you could easily remove the crystals if you chose to. It is also likely some of the crystals have been glued back into the matrix as it is common for them to fall off.
- #2 - 138.x86.8x31MM, 460 grams - a piece from Ambas Aguas, Spain, consisting of everything from cubes to dodecahedrons in a clay-claystone matrix. This matrix is very soft and fragile and you could easily remove the crystals if you chose to. It is also likely some of the crystals have been glued back into the matrix as it is common for them to fall off.
