Cotham Marble cabochons for jewellery making or inlay
Cotham Marble is a type of stromatolitic limestone from the area around Bristol, which, when cut and polished, has an interesting effect that looks almost like plants and trees on a landscape.
It is generally too soft to be used for jewellery making - around a 2 or a 3 on the Mohs scale, meaning it scratches very easily. As such, the jewellery must be designed to protect the stone - and ideally it should only be used for earrings or pendants anyway. A better use is as inlay on a wooden box or another object which is not handled often.
If it does get a shallow surface scratch, it can be repolished with a jewellers silver cloth, or some cerium oxide on wet leather. They will be polished before sending out to remove any small scratches from storage.
Our current stock all measure 30x22MM and are cut right here in the UK.
