Mixed colour Corundum / Sapphire Specimens
Small rough pieces of various colours of Corundum, a form of Aluminium Oxide, sometimes known as a Sapphire.
Sapphires are often thought of as blue, but any gem-grade Corundum that is not red (Ruby) is correctly known as a Sapphire. However, these are not gem-grade.
These pieces are available in a few sizes and make a decent study specimen. Obviously, these are not high grade specimens, and will never be cut and faceted!
Our current stock includes:

- Small crystals of alluvial Corundum from Sri Lanka, most of which is colourless, an off yellow, or a poor blue. Most of these pieces do show crystalline form but are somewhat weathered.
- Crystals from Vietnam, red Corundum with blue Corundum - technically a sapphire but realistically these would be referred to as mixed Corundum.
- Various sizes of crystal fragments from Burma/Myanmar - typically blue, yellow, or off-yellow colours.
- Crystal fragments from Burma/Myanmar which show good colour banding when backlit, and others which show minor asterism.
The pictures you see here are representative of the products and are usually not the exact item you will receive. Where various grades are available we do try to photograph each grade - but some photographs are still on their way!
