Pathological Carcharodon megalodon sharks teeth specimens
Pathological teeth from the famous Carcharodon megalodon shark. Pathological teeth are teeth marked by abnormalities caused by disease, congenital defects, or sometimes damage.
Obviously, pathological teeth are rarer than normal teeth - most teeth are (or were) healthy, so pathological Megalodon teeth are a rarity!
Some examples of pathologies include rippled edges, multiple points to the tooth, a strong curve to the overall tooth, or 'in grown' edges.
Our current stock includes:
#1 - 96x84x27MM approx specimen from Florida, USA, with the 96MM size measured down the centre, rather than along the edge. The longest edge is around 110MM. This tooth unfortunately has a broken root and is missing the very tip and one 'corner' nearest to the root. It exhibits a curve to the tooth which seems to curve upwards from where you would expect it to go. In addition, wavy sections are visible along the serrated edges - these should not be mistaken for the beginnings of the evolution of cusps though, they are simply wavy cutting edges, possibly caused by compression of the tooth at an early stage in development.
