Campylite specimens from Dry Gill Mine, Cumbria, UK

Campylite is a lead arsenate mineral which is a variety of Mimetite - it forms part of a series with Pyromorphite and it can be difficult to differentiate between Pyromorphite and Mimetite without laboratory access.

Dry Gill mine was a lead and silver mine which was of limited to no commercial significance, but has been regarded as one of the best mineral locations on earth for certain minerals.

"Of little commercial significance, this mine is one of the most famous mineral localities in the world. Lead minerals consisting predominantly of phosphate-bearing mimetite (campylite) in a gangue of quartz, barite and manganese oxides were deposited in an east-west vein. Other minerals occur rarely, the most well-known being plumbogummite."

1 review for Campylite specimens from Dry Gill Mine, Cumbria

  1. Mike (verified owner)

A nice item to add to my collection of Cumbrian minerals and those with an interesting chemical composition. The item was exactly as the information advertising the piece described. One reason why I have bought a number of pieces from Albion, Fire and Ice. Not forgetting well packaged, labelled and arrived promptly
