Iridescent Calcite display pieces
A very unusual Calcite specimen with defined 'dog tooth' Calcite crystals coated in an unknown iridescent mineral, probably Hematite or Goethite. This coating gives the mineral an iridescent sheen; this, as far as I'm aware, is extremely uncommon in Calcite.
Unfortunately, this specimen came from an old collection with no provenance. It would be very nice to know where its from, as I can only find reference to a few locales worldwide with an iridescent Calcite.
The specimen measures 100x77.1x64.5MM and weighs 485 grams. It has a reasonably flat base which doesn't rock around too much.
