Ammolite specimens from Canada
Colourful specimens of Ammolite, an extremely rare and unusual type of fossilised Ammonite from Canada. This material is only found in small amounts along the Rocky Mountains in North America, mostly in Canada.
Ammolite gets its colour from layers of Aragonite which replaced the original shell over time.
Ammolite is extremely fragile and is generally sealed in resin for its protection. When it is made into cabochons these typically have a domed resin cap.
In this case, the resin only covers the fragile iridescent area of the specimen, not the matrix rock.
- #1 - 136 grams / 77x34.5x22MM of Canadian Ammolite, with greens, blues, reds, and oranges visible.
